POPIA is South Africa's general personal data protection law and establishes the Information Regulator. It sets eight conditions for lawful processing, including appropriate security safeguards against loss, damage and unlawful access to data. In the event of a breach, the responsible party must notify the Regulator and the people affected as soon as reasonably possible.
